At Bonn, on January 30, 1975, the Christian Democrats
see to it that I am refused admission to the Bundestag. They do not wish me to
be present for the vote on ratification – that ratification they
persistently oppose and for which I have worked so hard. Achenbach, defeated,
has not come to see his more liberal colleagues join with the Social Democrats
to ratify the Franco-German judiciary ac cord. The long-sought victory is
celebrated in France and Israel.
However, I am off to Jerusalem on
February 4 and take with me little Lida whom I cannot leave in Paris. Thanks to
my supporting committee, I hold a press conference in Jerusalem the following
day revealing that Hans Schirmer, the former Nazi propagandist has been
entrusted with the preparation for the European-Aral talks at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs in Bonn. Schirmer is that German ambassador whom I opposed in
vain in 1970 in Vienna when he was appointed to represent the Federal Republic
there. And now here he is, entrusted with the preparation of the European-Arab
talks for Bonn when he, a Nazi, was the associate director, from 1939 to 1943,
of the vast radio apparatus for sending Hitlerian propaganda abroad. The
political line of the viler anti-Jewish propaganda broadcast to the Near East
is unmistakable "The Jews are the mortal enemies of the Arabs.... Your |
